A Tribute to Martin Luther King Jr.
On January 17, 2010 Congressman Mark Schauer hosted U.S. House Majority Whip
Jim Clyburn at the LCC West Campus. Eaton County residents were treated
to Congressman Clyburn's powerful reflections on Dr. Martin Luther King
and his impact on the course of our social progress.
Congressman Clyburn, who had worked alongside Dr. King, likened today's
health care battle with the civil rights struggles of the 60s. He
indicated that the current legislation is the first important round, and
must be continually improved, just as voting rights were left out of the
first civil rights package, and added later.
We are grateful to Congressman Schauer for bringing Congressman Clyburn
to Eaton County, and encourage those who were not able to attend to read
Dr. King's "Letter from the Birmingham Jail."
We also urge people to support efforts by Democrats, as we move forward,
to improve health care coverage for the American people.

From L to R: Eaton County Commission Chair Joe Brehler, Delta Twp.
Trustee Barb Poma, Congressman Mark Schauer, Congressman Jim Clyburn,
Eaton County Commissioner Theresa Abed and Eaton County Commissioner
Jeanne Pearl-Wright.

Eaton County Charities
We began with the thought of providing information about a couple of Eaton County
charities that our members may wish to support. What we found was a comprehensive
list of services to low income individuals and families that involve county agencies
and nonprofit organizations and include services such as health care, income assistance,
housing assistance and counseling. Many of these organizations are supported by the
Capital Area United Way and the Eaton County United Way.
